Late Night Poker

Late Night Poker is the original knock-out poker format specifically produced for terrestrial television, and credited with the current surge in the game’s popularity in the UK and beyond.

Late Night Poker PlayerLaunched in 1999 on Channel 4, Late Night Poker  broke new ground by using under-the-table cameras and a poker table with a see-through rim that allows viewers to see the cards each player is holding. It means viewers know who’s strong and who’s weak – and who’s bluffing and getting away with it. It allows television to tell the real story of each game, intensifying the drama and the sense of danger that’s always been a vital part of poker’s appeal.

Late Night Poker PlayerLate Night Poker is also credited with getting rid of the game’s “seedy” tag and giving it a new cool, sophisticated image – the tournaments are staged on a stylish set under hot studio lights, and shot in a way to maximise drama and tension.

Over the years, Late Night Poker has evolved.  Its offspring include Celebrity Late Night Poker with Stephen Fry, Martin Amis, and Ricky Gervais,  PartyPoker.com Late Night Poker Ace (in search for the world’s best amateur poker player) and PartyPoker.com Late Night Poker Masters.

In early 2008, Late Night Poker returns to Channel 4’s screens. A one off celebrity special is followed by a 10 part series featuring 49 players vying for the $125,000 first prize.
